Everything you need to know about TTY services

TTY services were originally developed for use in the news sector where fast text communication was required, but in the 1960s the technology was adapted for use on standard phone lines. TTY machines can send and receive text information over a telephone connection to communicate with hearing impaired people. Sometimes called a text telephone (TT) or a telecommunication device for the deaf (TDD), the term TTE covers all the different types available according to the telecommunications organization for the deaf.

Enable TTY mode

To enable TTY calling gender on Android phones, open the app list and find "Settings". Tap on the icon. Scroll down and tap "Call Settings". Tap "TTY mode" and then select the TTY mode you want from the list. When you're done, tap "Home". TTY mods are: "TTY off;" "TTY complete;" "TTY HCO;" And "TTY VCO." You should only use TTY settings if you are connecting your Android to a TTY device. Otherwise, use the text messaging and e-mail options for text communication as the TTY interface is specialized for transmitting text over an audio signal via a traditional phone line.

TTE variables

Types of TTY are Complete, HCO and VCO. Full TTY mode means that there is only text-communication on both sides of the phone call. HCO stands for "Hearing Carry-over" which means you hear a voice reading incoming text and you type outgoing text. VCO stands for "Voice Carry-over" which means you speak outgoing text and retrieve a text message as your incoming communication. HCO settings are usually enhanced for hearing difficulty. Be careful with headsets and hands-free earpieces when enabling HCO due to this increased volume.

TTY technology is one way at a time, meaning that only one side of a conversation can be transmitted at a time. To facilitate front and back communication, TTY users have developed some shorthand. "GA" indicates that you should "go ahead" and type. This acts like saying "over" in radio communication, indicating that you are stuck and waiting for a response. When making a call, wait at least seven rings for an answer, as it may take longer for a hearing-impaired person to record an incoming call. A typical greeting when a deaf person responds is "GA". Then it is polite to answer with your name and the reason for calling you. End the call with "SK" to indicate that you have "stopped keying" on your side.

What is TTY mode mean in my mobile phone? And this question has been chosen to answer in today's article. A teletypewriter (TTY) is a device used for communication by hearing-impaired and speech-impaired people. The user writes a message on the TTY machine and the machine transmits the message via telephone line or mobile phone signal. The TTY machine next to the recipient will receive the message and display it to the user on a text display screen.
